Alright, penmonkeys, I am avoiding doing other things.
Not things I’d like to be doing, like working on my Draft 2 Overhaul document. Or going through beta reader responses. But alas, I will have to get back to the actual work that’s eating my arms. But right after I finish this blog post.
So far, I’ve received about 2.31 beta reader responses. The .31 section comes from a beta who hasn’t finished the book yet or answered the questions, but instead has opted to list out the characters he a) doesn’t like, b) ships, and c) thinks are endlessly amusing.
Both of them (and the .31 bit too) have been really, really helpful. The comments are mostly good, but are also critical, which is the part I’m really looking for right now. Right now, they are the little objective voices pointing out the things that in my heart of hearts I knew were there but never really paid too much attention to. Jeez, that was a confusing sentence.
I said I’d talk shop, right? Okay, let’s talk shop.
Draft 3 is certainly going to be a thing. Opus is certainly not through with two edits, no sir, it is not. The beginning is still a swirling hellhole of problems, there’s a character who actually needs a real arc (what a concept!), there’s motivations to untangle from this weird amorphous motivation web.
After Draft 3 (or during the edits), I may or may not begin my search for agents. I don’t know yet, but we shall see.
Until next time, dear readers. I have to attend to real work before it wises up and decides to gnaw off my legs as well.
