Hello again, readers. Miss me?
On second thought, don’t answer that.
I’ve been an absentee blogger and I apologize profusely for that. But some days, life and writing gets in the way of blogging.
Speaking of writing….hey-o! I’ve made progress! I’m 12 document pages down in Opus (as in, I have 12 edited). I am not afraid to say that I have legitimately taken large swathes of the beginning of the novel and chopped them out. But not forever, silly readers.
NEVER simply delete parts you don’t like when doing a first editing run-through. Open up another document (you can call it something like ‘trash pile’ or ‘pieces of crap from project xyz’ or something less mean. I called mine ‘snipped bits: Opus’…only its real name isn’t Opus…) and dump said craptastic parts in that mofo.
So if you need it again in, let’s say, draft 2 editing, you know exactly where it is and you won’t have to weep profusely. Ta da! Who said I can’t give advice?
In other (but related) news, one of my beta readers decided to give me an arbitrary deadline by which I should have draft 2 of Opus all sown up. That date is April 14th. That only gives me *checks watch* 7 months and 3 days.
By that, we hope that I’ll be a step closer towards getting Opus represented and published. But that comes later…
And now, music!
I feel kind of guilty about not posting for a while, so I’ve decided to give all of you who care and/or read this blog something neat. Well, I think it’s kind of cool. It’s different than what I normally do.
So, you may or may not like this. Let it be recorded that I warned you.
I decided to find some of the strangest songs on the Opus playlist. Just kind of general over-all weird. When I looked them over, I picked out the ones that really seemed like outliers among the rest. That would be ones from things that very few people have heard of and/or things that seem kind of jarringly not me.
Now I won’t share the weirdest one with you yet (because I’m saving that for something special…and maybe because I’m a wee bit embarrassed that I listened to said song, how many times? *checks iTunes* too many times).
But I will give you two of them 😀
The first one I used while writing a pseudo-attack-type scene/thing. This falls under the category of weird for two reasons. The first is because, while this thing is popular, I’m sure very few people actually know that I like it. The second is because I don’t actually know the artist’s name. So here it is:
Body Motion from the Shingeki no Kyojin (also known as Attack on Titan) soundtrack: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZHIaQpU0JQ
If you’ve heard of SNK (and I know that some of my readers have) good for you. It has an amazing and chilling soundtrack, just so you are aware.
The second one will most likely than not be familiar to many of you (especially when I tell you where it’s from). And it is:
Clarice by Howard Shore: https://play.spotify.com/album/4IFsIpjTVyPXUlDkbr0mk7
That one I can’t find on Youtube, sorry. Yes, I listen to The Silence of the Lambs soundtrack. It’s a shade weird/messed up, but that’s why it’s on this list. Howard Shore is amazing and this track is no exception. I used this song to write a really creepy scene with my villain. This song might be his theme. It’s perfect inspiration, cause let’s be honest, villains creepier than Hannibal Lecter are few and far between.
So, that’s my musical surprise for the day! I hope you liked it. If you just think I’m really strange now, that’s okay too. Though I hope you’ll continue to read the blog as I trudge through my edits.
