I think this is going to become a pattern readers. Until I have extra time on my hands, I’ll just be updating on the weekends. Sorry about that, but it can’t be helped.
Anyway, I do have two updates. One has to do with Opus. The other, not so much.
So, Opus. For all you beta readers who read the blog, I have 22 pages almost fully edited! Which in terms of chapters means the preface and chapters 1 & 2. This is legitimate progress and I am quite happy.
Let me just say something. These first few chapters are practically new. The editing for these first few chapters has looked a lot less like editing and a lot more like re-sculpting. And so, because these chapters are practically new, I’m probably going to send them to my critique partners and have them say either “yes, have a virtual pony! you’re going in the right direction!” or “BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD FOR YOU!”
In short, I have 6 months and 16 days till my deadline. And only 7417 words of my 102,000 goal word count actually written. BUT I STILL HAVE TIME. OODLES OF TIME.
Oh, yes. I forgot. I never mention the goal word count thing. So my word count goal for Opus Draft 1 was 80,000 words. It was a good goal, it made Opus into something that was actually novel-shaped.
But that was only a first draft goal. I need to crank it up by about 22,000 words to make Opus look super-uber novel-shaped. And those words are going to consist of more action scenes, more dream sequences, more subtext, and most importantly: more things/people behaving badly.
The next update is that not only am I editing, I am critiquing a novel. Bitchcicle’s novel in fact. This is only perhaps the second time I’ve been on the critiquing side of this equation, as opposed to the critiqued. So, I’m about 40909 words into Le Book (out of 64856 words).
That’ll be its new name: Le Book.
Since she doesn’t have an author blog, I’ll take this brief opportunity to promote it. I would put it in the category of young adult urban fantasy. It’s filled to the brim with characters of all shapes and sizes, puns, and amusing subtext that I like to comment on in all caps.
Anyway, that’s all I have for now. So….music!
So, in going back an editing Opus, I’ve also been going back and editing/organizing my Opus writing playlist. I actually have a 2.0 version of it that (if I get published and if anyone cares) I will put in order/mesh together on Soundcloud and post it here.
But you guys get the continuation of the original playlist. In all its strange and mixed-up glory.
Oh, good this is one of my favorite songs. 😀
